We've had really happy times at local markets recently, Great atmosphere and friendly fellow traders in Tewkesbury, Gloucester, Chepstow, Newent and Ross. Many thanks to to all the organizers, - Apart from the chilly mornings that is! I'll post Decembers market dates very soon on here ...(Just working on them now)... and hope to see you if you can make it down to these wonderful local markets.

I dont know what it is about Bluebells but, despite the lovely autumn colours here at the moment, people are tending to seek out bluebell prints from my stall recently - so I've just uploaded a few more and different photos into the Spring and Summer Portfolio - (they start on page 3). It might be that people like to send them abroard nearer Christmas time. I'm still not sure if bluebells exist in the USA? - (I cant see why they shouldn't, but I honestly dont know)... Here it seems quite furtive and slightly underhand to trade in Bluebell photos out of season, it feels a little like dealing drugs or contraband! "'Ere d'ya wanna buy a bluebell?" ...

Having said that, please enjoy the pics, and if you would like prints made please order them ready for Christmas gifts. All Prints are ready to go into easily obtainable framesas 'off the shelf' frame sizes make displaying prints a little less of a headache. I also produce canvasses and acrylic prints or other products that can be easily arranged using any photo on this website. Please just let me know your requirements via the CONTACT BOX and I'll be very happy to help.

As the weather gets colder please see below a quick compilation of 'Shiny Sky' photos - all of which are available as prints.

The rain held off and tree climbing photos for the brave(I feel old)! were de rigour this session, I stayed safely on the ground! Heres a few pics from a recent Family shoot...

Ive been catching up with some of the animals around here recently... daffy ducks, silly squirrels (Squirrel - what a wonderful word!) and funny pheasants... These are all availaible as prints, canvasses or any product you'd like to mention. were off to the Forest Showcase at Speech house for the first time on Sunday 1st October - Please come along take a look at the vast array of Forest photos if you can, I'd love to see you. Just hoping the weather keeps, tho' somehow I get the feeling we'll all be in for the remains of hurricane Maria Thoughts go out to the islanders of Dominica and Barbuda especially - theyve had it real bad.

Here's some photos from Bank Holiday Weekend which, for a change, weve had the nicest weather for weeks. It made running a stall seem all easy peasy wonderful again - instead of chasing flying photo prints across car parks and rushing to cover the stall as it pelted with rain. Still its been a lovely time locally with small music fests galore. Here's a few from 'Cindyfest' and Blind River scare at 'Woodystock' in the Woodmans Arms, Parkend. Thanks guys - Its been good!

Two beautiful June weddings and the weather's been just perfect... Heres just a few photos from Louise and Jasons lovely day ...

and Mike and Lorraines wonderful wedding in Cinderford...Huge congratulations to you both! X

And a week or so before I had the honour to photograph a beautiful young lady on what was almost the hottest day of the year. Well done Bernyce for wearing that lovely but very warm dress in such baking heat.

Survived another winter! OK so still no snow and left wishing next years Christmas cards would contain at least a drop, I'm trying hard to hide my dissappointment here, but onwards into the warmer weather and things are looking up!

I went out stalking baby lambs yesterday (with the wrong lens) then, as the ewes moved on, I went back to the car to review photos, and realised that the nosey little lambs had followed me. They are so cute - couldnt resist posting a few here.

April is upon us and heres a selection with some of the littler things to be found in the woods.

My photography courses will be starting again on Tues 2nd May and Thurs 4th May at John Kyrle High School in Ross.

Please check them out as they are a highly affordable and fun way to pick up or expand on your own photography skills, get away from those annoying automatic settings on your DSLR (that often fail to produce the best photos), and also get out and about with your camera of an evening and have some fun taking pics outdoors with a friendly group. The link for more information and how to book can be found at this link. I look forward to seeing you if you can make it to these courses.

Happy New Year ! and heres hoping 2017 is a good one for everybody. Heard so much from others about their 2016 experiences that for many it was a right 'ol downer of a year. We've lost so many great great musicians too... Its a year today since David Bowie passed and I'm regretting that I'd not taken chances to see them all live ... heres a great bit of advice from The man who fell to Earth that I happened upon this morning... On 'Why you should never play to the gallery'

Im looking forward to doing more family shoots in 2017. More details are on the prints and shoots page at this link.

If you are visiting or living in the Forest of Dean and getting family members together for a holiday or fun day out. A photo shoot is a great way to preserve those memories. It will take between 1-2 hours depending on how many people you have with you. Your finished DVD disc will contain a huge variety of portraits for any combinations of family members you would like me to photograph in a range of different areas of your prefered location. If you would like to book a session, please just send me a quick message via the CONTACT BOXand I'll get straight back to you to discuss your plans and help arrange your shoot. Inclement weather can always be worked around, so please dont worry if we need to change timings to suit outdoor conditions.

...And heres a few images from a recent Family shoot.

Kicking off on a bright note, its been frosty and we had a few days of white hoar frost, I'm hoping we'll get some snow however. Its been years now - wheres it all gone? Italy has 7 feet of the stuff at the moment! (although since the recent awful earthquakes and avalanches there, perhaps this is just as well). Fingers crossed that we'll get at least a sprinking before the week is out, but in meantime heres some recent winter frosts. If theres any photos you see on this blog page that you would like to obtain prints or canvasses of then please do use the Contact Box and we can arrange.

Ahh yere 'tiz at long last! ... All 2mm of snow, A sprinkling to be sure - but it makes for a very pretty scene in Lydbrook Village.

...And a visit to Bristol docks over New Year.... We were running to reclaim the car before the parking ticket ran out ... I could've lingered on this bridge over the docks and watched for ages...

Heres a list of Christmas markets for this season. Looking forward to seeing you there if you can make it. Ive got fingers crossed theres no strong winds as A4 prints flying across the street are a devil to catch!

...What a lovely start to December, blisteringly cold for a few days and the beautiful Hoar Frost made a brief return to this world after a couple of years absense. I really pleased that the forcast is (supposedly) for a 'Colder than average' winter this year ... Its been a disappointing couple of winters on the photography front but here goes!

My Photo greetings cards are still availaible in local shops, New images are appearing all the time as the forest changes seasons.

It all kicking off for summer here, and I'm (finally)! beginning to realise that the early mornings are getting marginally warmer and more people are around. Me - wandering around in the woods with my camera in Vikki Pollard style tracksuit bottoms, 10 jumpers and pink but muddy wellies may not be in my better long term interests so have decided to wear jeans instead. Still, it was good and comfy while it lasted!

I'm taking part in a small exhibition at Hopewell Colliery along with Claire Robinson and Ronnie Hackston at Hopewell Colliery as part of the Open Studios Season. Please feel free to pop in and check out Claires marvellous paintings and Ronnies art as well as a few of my pics.

Spring kind of came and went this year, and now the Forest is returning to its flock of even green. ... But I did manage to catch some softer light through the yew trees and some darkness inside the Celtic huts at The Secret Forest,Stockwood (opposite Clearwell Caves)...Long may these kind of habitats be preserved! Please see the pics below.

This Spring has been brilliant on the bluebell front as well. Zillions of the little perishers springing up in places I didnt even know about, and overwhelming in its sheer expanse, perfume and beauty. It must've been the milder winter, but every year seems to have a different quality as the bells compete for light and the timings of the wonderful beech trees coming into leaf.

It reminds me of this poem about Spring by e.e. cummings

when faces called flowers float out of the ground

and breathing is wishing and wishing is having –

but keeping is downward and doubting and never

– it’s april (yes, april;my darling) it’s spring!

yes the pretty birds frolic as spry as can fly

yes the little fish gambol as glad as can be

(yes the mountains are dancing together)

Its been great to see a drop o' sunshine at last and although the trees are looking incredible denuded and bare and ocassionally the views through the empty branches are pretty great. Without any leaf cover its a great way to discover what lies beyond road side foliage when Im driving along, Ive discovered some hidden dells- well, potentially anyway and they all need checking out. I'll upload some foresty pics here as soon as possible...

In the meantime tho', theres spring in our steps!! and below are some photos from the Ledbury based 'Prime Fitness' Studio which has recently opened. Heres wishing the new owner every success with his new venture!

Where then did 2015 go?...and where's the snow? Looks like the El Nino effect is starting to bite, and theres alot of grey weather around with very little of the yellow stuff. However spring aint that far off and we brightened up considerably by going to watch Jane Pearl and her band/s at The Cock Inn, Blakeney followed by the Miners Arms in Whitecroft the following week with her band Indigomojo.

Indigomojo!

Thad Kelly on the left and Lyndon Webb to the right in this photo. All the menfolk are highly competent musicians and we all had great fun.

Also I was really honoured to supply a photo for my dear friend John Mayfield for his beautiful song 'No Oceans Mine' which is published on bandcamp and can be listened to at this link

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!

Well not quite there yet and I should've updated this blog ages ago. So sorry, but been having a few computer problems these past couple of weeks. The weather has for once here (...and its not often)! provided a bit of a let down as I was looking forward to those lovely frosty mornings, and we've instead had the low cloud and rain. My heart goes out to the people flooded out of their homes in Cumbria, at least here the River Wye flows though a deep valley in (mostly) open countryside and doesn't do much damage - tho' I dont fancy getting out in the kayak with the waters going at the rate of knots!.

My cards and some A4 mounted prints are now being sold at Greetings Galore, Gloucester its wonderful to be given a whole display space to fill and the Gloucester based cards & prints are selling well as are the Forest of Dean selections. Were at Eastgate Craft Market in Gloucrester too (Hopefully just outside BHS and entrance to Kings Walk Arcade area) - this weekend coming on both Saturday & Sunday 19th and 20th December. Please pop round to the stall if you're in town and have a rummage through the different prints available. All 9x6" prints are mounted ready to go into A4 frame which is easy to find and make great affordable Christmas gifts.

Here a few photos from a family shoot I did recently. Autumn's a very popular time to spend a holiday in the Forest and this year has been brilliant colour wise as the leaves wernt blown off the trees too quickly thanks to the mild, still conditions. If you would like a relaxed and friendly record of your holiday, please get in touch to arrange. I'm at 01594 860062.

And a few of the beautiful trees!

A wonderful opportunity to photograph the Equestrian Vaulting championships in Pencoed Wales. What fun and a really exciting time and a pleasure to take photos of these talented people...here's a few of the photos....!

The surf was well up in Pembrokeshire, these waves taken near St. Davids where we tried some trendy cliff-top camping, had the tent blown down .... and then spent the next few days holed up in a not so trendy field behind a thick hedge and the toilet block! Eventually the wind dropped just enough to risk a sand blown lens...

Weddings! I love them! It was a huge honour to photography Megan And Keiths wedding in Ledbury last weekend, and here are just a few of the pics .... Please enjoy! If you would like me to photograph your wedding, please check out more information, prices and FAQ's at this link.

The beautiful flower arrangements were produced by 'Lilac and Dill' in Ledbury. I was well impressed with the muted colours the bride chose, and they made a perfect backdrop to the reception.

Last days of July already - Already! We disappeared off to the coast for a few days in Pembrokeshire, The wind was strong, the seas were up but boy what views! Im discovering fast that large landscape vistas in bright surroundings are a whole new ball game compared with the forest and its dense, dark mid range views... and Im still trying hard to master seascapes - but heres a few attempts. One of these days It'll be with a full frame sensor camera....

Can't help but notice what a year its being for wild flowers. Buttercups everywhere! and now the foxgloves have taken over and they seem to thrive in new areas every year. Here are some of Clarkes Pool Meadow near Lydney...I didnt realise that the giant hogweed was so dangerous! and luckily I didnt touch it at the time tho did think it would make nice dried decoration indoors. Apparently it can cause horrid skin reactions and cause the sunlight on ones skin to blister and burn where its touched... There seems to be alot of it around this year too.

The foxgloves in the woods up near Speech House took me by surprise, so many!! They often grow where fir trees have been cropped, but these were deep in woodland on an intensly bright midday. Sometimes I cant quite beleive what Im seeing.

A day off and we took ourselves off to Brirmingham to watch the Two Michaels (Weston-King and Cosgrave!) play some of the songs of Jackie Leven and Townes Van Zandt..both great artists, both now sadly departed; but it was lovely to know that people are still prepared to keep their music alive. An excellent performance! Thanks so much guys - A pleasure to listen to!

I've been really busy in Gloucester recently. The markets in Eastgaate St & The Cross area are up and running again after the winter break, and I've also been busy taking photos for the Gloucester Community Partnership around Westgate, The Park and Alney Island. Here are a few of the more 'different' scenes....

...And not forgetting the raggle taggle Bluebells near Lydney and its bright leaves and fields!

And also the beautiful house and grounds of Lydney Park. Please scroll down this blog to last springs pics for more photos of the wonderful rhodedendrons that flower here.

Happy New Year Everyone!
Busy busy busy!!! before Christmas at various local markets and meeting some lovely people around and about. And now the true winter (As I call it) is here...Expecting our first crop of snow tomorrow, its a bit late and I suspect we'll not see much of it again this year again - tho' Im no weather forcaster and might be wrong! Theres been very few frosts too, but below are a few examples from recent trips out down by the riverside in Lydbrook where I live.

Down by the Misty River Wye at Lydbrook

Ahh! Here comes the snow now!

...Just starting to read a new novel with my youngest daughter - I will post more about this book next time, but The magical Forest of Dean is the inspiration for 'When The Madach Came' - CR Burman's 'The Danae of The Forest' series.

Recently too Ive been taking several 1:1 tutorials and had the pleasure to meet some new brilliant & enthusiastic new 'Students'. We've been doing practically everything photography! - including light painting and wide angle shooting using the beautiful Forest locations as our backdrop - Can't wait to catch the new spring flowers as 'in the field' macro photography is a real challenge. Please join me if you have a camera, it doesnt matter what type it is. Details are on my Prints, Portraits & Tutorials Page and Im also advertising in that great local, free and very helpful 'The Forest Bee' magazine which you may have seen in your local shops. Its packed with allsorts of wonderful courses being held in the Forest and thoroughly recomended you grab a copy as they are rapidly disappearing from the shelves. Im delighted that a few of my photos will also be appearing on the Forest Bee Website shortly.

I have been selling my Landscape prints in Gloucester recently around Gloucester Cross area.We really enjoyed just 'getting out there' with a large assortment of photos and meeting loads of brilliant people; and even sharing our pitch with three Camels at the 'Night Lights' market!! When even eating a jacket potato in front of them resulted in a camel locking me in his gaze and dedicated chewing in perfect sychronization with each mouthful! Im mainly selling A4 mounted Prints & greetings cards but also taking orders for bespoke enlargements, posters and canvases as well as rerquests for photos to be printed onto practically any item as Christmas gifts. Please just ask and we'll do our best to help!

Sorry its been a while and I dont know where time goes, but getting forced indoors now that the Autumns set in is no bad thing and reluctantly I'm beginning to embrace winter days again. The times of Halloween, Guy Fawkes and Rememberance are always pretty special, and marked this year by a beautiful lantern and torchlight procession around Mallards Pike lake on 5th Nov to coincide with the Infrastructure Bill debate in the House of Lords. As the evening turned to night we found out that the Lords had begun to promise an Amendment to this Bill to ensure all UK forests are kept that way.... We all heaved an almighty sense of relief that the night had gone our way. Its not all over yet, but heres some pics I took! To learn more please visit Hoofs (Hands off Our Forest) website via this Link

HOOF PRINTS below are now uploaded in the HOOF PRINTS GALLERY. If you would like to buy prints or a full set of 5 different cards for £10 (inc. p&p)) OR a 6x4" print card from the HOOF GALLERY for £2.20 (inc. P&P). Please use the drop down box below each print that says 'View Prices/Order a Print' ... or of course use the CONTACT BOX with your details, OR phone me on 01594 860062 and I can help you that way to order a print. Proceeds (After print costs etc. taken out - works out at approx 15% - will be donated to HOOF Campaign for photosales from this Gallery). Please support us! Thanks so much!

I was also hugely honoured to have my photo above published in The Guardian today alongside an article by 38 degrees explaining what this is all about. Huge thanks to the HOOF campaigners too....without them fighting to ensure that forest lands are protected by law - where would we be?! And many thanks to George Monbiot for his inspiring articles and letting me nick his blog title!

Its turned out to be a wonderful summer with great spells of bright sunshine at last - Well, compared to previous years I could mention! I've been busy trying to get my landscape photos out to a slightly wider audience and have been running a couple of Stalls locally. Meeting new friends and selling wares is what its all about, and I can see why the UK is a 'Nation of Shopkeepers'... Its been alot of fun, and I'm hugely impressed with the craft talents of other stallholders. August I suppose is the time to start thinking 'Christmas' in most womens minds and Ive mainly concentrated on producing affordable prints to go into A4 frames rather than the big stuff which is impossible to display outside in a high wind!

And another Summer highlight was the great JOBEFEST!! ...Held on the River Wye near Ross with great people building rafts to raise money for new Scanners at Birmingham Childrens Hospital. Below are some silly moments as the refts propelled themselves (with assistance from their giggling crews) into Ross On Wye. Batman & Robin (2 consultants from Birmingham Childrens Hospital) were as Relient as ever. Pics below! What a day! and the Ross Gazette even put my photos on their front page! Coo ...

Speaking of movement! - Theres been plenty! ... Sometimes Landscape Photography can seem fairly static stuff, but its also full of truly fleeting moments of light where one has to be ready & quick. I eventually trotted up Ruardean hill a couple of weeks ago just after ex-hurricane Bertha had passed us by, and as the rain had abated enough to risk my camera not getting wet! Catching a cloudburst in the deepening, speeding sunset as it tracked towards us from the Black Mountains in the distance was wonderful. (I really must get the tea on earlier & family fed so I can practise this a little more!)...

High speed photography in good daylight is fun too. A couple of weeks ago I did the 'Equestrian thing' and found myself inside Lindridge show jumping ring secretly wondering if/when I was about to get trampled on by a thundering horse. (...Kindly assured I was not...). The size of these horses got ever larger as the day wore on .... A day full of photos! Huge thanks to every one there for being such great fun and so photogenic! Heres some pix of the child riders & their mounts who were just adorable.

But those calm still early mornings camping in summer are the best ever. The photos below were taken near Tenby in Pembrookshire when we spent a few days camping. Truth be told I was only walking around the area at 5.30am because I'd woken far too early to reasonably sit tight in a tent with others still snoring loudly. These cobwebs were in the field behind the campsite! Morning dew highlighting an entire city of spiders!
